Early Week Heavy Rain Threat...Cooler By End Of Week

The big story for the next few days will be our rainfall amounts expected. The Weather Prediction Center's 1-3 day outlook puts us in the 2-3 inch range of expected rainfall over the next 72 hours. We will have to keep an eye out for some flooding possibilities thanks to this.

In addition to this rainfall threat, there is also the chance for some thunderstorms, maybe even a few severe. The main threat for these will be off to the south and southwest of our area according to the Storm Prediction Center's convective outlook.

Looking farther out in the week behind these storms, there is a little bit of uncertainty with the models. The NAM model has an area of low pressure moving right through Northern Illinois Wednesday into Thursday bringing us rain and the possibility of thunderstorms. The GFS and European models also have this area of low pressure moving off farther to the south than the NAM. This would also bring rain, but also the possibility of much cooler temperatures.

Expect temperatures for the week to start off warm with 65 being our high today. Tomorrow will be a little cooler with the first real chance for storms move in with temperatures getting up to 53. There will be a cooling trend through the rest of the week as that next moves in with the temperatures possibly falling down to the upper 20s Friday night. It looks as if they will then begin rebound with 50s on Saturday and Sunday.
