With the ridge of high pressure continuing to build throughout early next week hot mid-summer like temperatures will return. With this heat coming in so will higher dewpoints bringing higher heat indices to the region and even some isolated thunderstorm chances.
Focusing in on the heat we can take a look back in the past where we experienced a similar situation where 90 degree plus temperatures stuck around for a similar stretch of time during almost 2 years to the date now. Looking back at the heat stretch of 2022 the Rockford area hit 100 degrees for the first time in a decade on June 21st of 2022. Although we may not reach the upper 90's that were achieved in mid-June of 2022, we will still be in for a stretch of high heat throughout early next week. With this heat it will be crucial to stay hydrated and take heat safety precautions through next week.
