Portion of Northern Illinois remains under a Heat Advisory

The seasonal transition from spring to summer is 2 days away and yet, summer hasn't been shy to make it's presence known in the Great Lakes.

Monday marked the second time in as many days where the Rockford Airport came in with a high of 94°. Factoring in the humidity, heat indices briefly touched the century mark.

More of the same can be expected today as ridging remains in control to our east. This will leave us with more sunshine, a rather robust southwesterly wind, and highs in the low 90s.

Dew points still look to be in the upper 60s and low 70s throughout the day, which will allow heat indices to once again approach the century mark. For this, the NWS in Quad Cities has left Stephenson, Jo-Daviess, Carroll, and Whiteside County under a HEAT ADVISORY until 8PM this evening.

Overnight, temperatures will fall into the low to mid 70s. However, our focus will then turn to what will transpire to our northwest across Minnesota. Storms that develop during the afternoon will sink southeastward in a weakening fashion, landing west of the Mississippi River before sunrise.

One or two of these storms could sustain themselves enough to where we see an isolated chance. Overall, the severe threat is quite low. A secondary and slightly higher chance for stronger to possibly severe storms arrives Wednesday afternoon and evening as the actual cold front enters the region. For this, the Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the Stateline under a level 1 of 5 Marginal Risk, primarily for the possibility of damaging winds. Heavy downpours will also be a concern. Temperatures are still expected to peak around the 90° mark, cooling into the low 70s overnight.
