Severe storms are expected to return to the region during Thursday afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk for all of Northern Illinois including an enhanced risk for counties farther southwest including Lee and Whiteside counties.
As Thursday moves through warm temperatures will stick around with temperatures reaching up to 89 degrees tomorrow accompanied by higher humidity. Through the day Thursday most of Northern Illinois will remain clear until later Thursday evening when a cold front moves through the area. The timing of this cold front will be near the early evening hours around 6-7 p.m. as the cold front moves through it will be the initiator of storms and possible severe weather.
As the cold front moves through the region storms will begin near the Illinois/Wisconsin border and will quickly intensify. The Storm Prediction's slight risk in place outlines the main threats as damaging wind gusts as well as large hail. Areas further south outlined in the enhanced risk are in a greater risk for this threat tomorrow evening. As well with any storm threat heavy downpours will occur so flash flooding is a possible risk as well. Throughout the evening storms will move further south and will be out of the region by 9 p.m.
