Air quality alert issued for a portion of the Stateline

One of the bigger weather headlines this week has been the wildfire smoke with the biggest uncertainty being if it will be able to reach the surface.

While yesterday's rainfall was welcome with open arms, the sinking air behind it will allow some of the smoke to be transferred down to the surface. For that, the Environmental Protection Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert for the eastern half of Minnesota, all of Iowa and all of Wisconsin.

This does include Green, Rock, and Walworth County. For the state of Wisconsin, this alert will run from noon today until noon Wednesday. Once the rain fully moves out this morning, expect air quality to drop to moderate to unhealthy levels. To be safe, those with heart and lung conditions, the young, and the elderly should limit time outdoors.

Visibility is also taking a hit as the morning commute gets underway. Some, including Rockford, Rochelle, and Galena are seeing visibility as low as 3 miles. Use extra caution if traveling this morning.
