Scattered shower chances return this weekend with seasonable temperatures

Thursday was an average day in the Stateline with high temperatures reaching the upper 70s. We saw a fair bit of sunshine peeking through some of the continued wildfire smoke. Friday will be very similar temperature-wise, with highs back to the mid and upper 70s. Any added sunshine compared to Thursday could allow a few spots to tag the low 80s. We might see an isolated shower try to develop mainly Northwest of Rockford toward the evening. But most, if not all, will likely remain dry.

Another weak wave will pass over the area Saturday, bringing a slightly better chance for rain showers toward the evening. Anything we see will again fall in a scattered form, keeping many spots dry through this window as well. Temperatures will again reach the mid-70s, with any rain keeping things a bit cooler than Friday.

The best chance for rain showers in the near term will arrive along a cold front Sunday. This could also spark a few strong thunderstorms, depending on the timing of the front. Later afternoon would allow more energy to build up, possibly enhancing the storm potential.

A pocket of cooler air will filter in behind Sunday's cold front, bringing temperatures down to the low-mid 70s Monday and Tuesday. But we will see a quick return to above average temperatures as a warmer air mass will build in from the West for the middle of next week.
