Heat Advisory issued for all of Northern Illinois, set to begin Saturday

Lots to talk about as we get into the first few couple of the summer season, including storm chances this morning and dangerous heat this weekend.

We're quiet for now. However, a complex of showers and storms pushing through northern Iowa may bring the potential for a few morning storms, primarily from mid-morning to midday.

These should weaken on approach, though there could be a narrow window of stronger wind gusts (30-40 mph) immediately behind. How quickly storms and clouds clear into the afternoon will determine where temperatures end up. Highs are likely to rebound into the mid-80s with breezy south-southwest winds through the afternoon. Overnight lows won't help much as we look to start our Saturday in the low 70s.

This warm base will be provide the start to what is going to be a dangerously warm weekend. A HEAT ADVISORY has been issued for all of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin starting Saturday, lingering into late Monday.

For Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee, and Dekalb County, this will run from 10AM Saturday to midnight Monday. For Green, Rock, and Walworth County, 12PM Saturday to 7PM Monday. Then for our four neighboring counties to the west, Stephenson, Jo-Daviess, Carroll, and Whiteside County, 12PM Saturday to 8PM Monday.

Temperatures Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will wind up in the mid to upper 90s, falling short of our daily record highs by a few degrees.

Factoring in the humidity, heat indices will likely sit in the 100° to 110° range. Similar to tonight, there will be little to any relief overnight as temperatures only fall into the low to mid 70s. This runs 10° to as much as 15° above late-June standards.

With this being our first prolonged heat of the season, be mindful of you and your loved ones.

You can beat the excessive heat by wearing light colored clothing, taking frequent breaks in the shade and air conditioning, and of course remaining hydrated. Heat exhaustion and stroke can occur rather quickly if outdoors for too long. Pass these safety tips to your neighbors, those without A/C, the elderly, and even your four-legged friends!
