Couple of rain chances to monitor as we approach Old Settlers Days weekend

Another round of scattered showers, possibly a storm or two, will be possible this afternoon as a secondary cold front sweeps through the Stateline. Chances arrive as early as the late morning hours and extend into the early evening hours.

All in all, severe potential will be lower. The higher potential resides in the area where instability will be greatest along the cold front, so northern Indiana and a good portion of Michigan. Afternoon highs because of the cold front's timing will end up cooler, landing on either side of the 70 degree mark.

From there, we remain dry as we await the arrival of our next cold front. Temperatures ahead of it will be on the upward trend, landing near 80 degrees Tuesday, then in the upper 80s Wednesday. Forecast models then show this next cold front diving in from the upper Midwest by Thursday morning.

Once this cold front sinks down, it stalls over northern Illinois, pooling moisture along it which will allow rain chances to be present.

Now, the position of this front is key for not only our late-week rain chances but also our temperatures. A subtle shift to the south will leave us cooler and vise versa if the front ends up north of Rockford. But with this boundary close by, it will be something to watch if you plan to attend Old Settlers Days this weekend at Settlers Park up in Rockton!
