Stormy pattern with summer-like humidity this week

The upcoming pattern this week will feel a bit more summer-like with added humidity and almost daily thunderstorm chances. Most of the activity will favor the first half of the week, from Monday through Wednesday. At this time, the exact timing of each round of storms may be a bit tricky to determine, partly because each previous round will heavily influence the evolution of the next. But as of Sunday evening, the highest coverage of any storms will likely be between Tuesday and Wednesday, with a potential for a few strong storms featuring heavy rain in that window especially.

Starting with Monday, we will see only spotty showers throughout the day, with likely many spots remaining dry. There will not be much energy in the atmosphere to produce any thunderstorms yet until late Monday evening. Same cannot be said for areas across Minnesota and Wisconsin Monday evening, so we may need to watch for a few of those storms to drop South Monday evening/Monday night. Any storm activity we see then will be quickly weakening with the highest potential for stronger storms primarily Northwest of the Stateline.

Tuesday will bring a bit higher coverage of storms, especially the second half of Tuesday into the nighttime hours. A few of these storms may produce some stronger wind gusts and possibly some small hail. The early half of Tuesday may be mostly dry, but again, the rounds of storms that would come through will be heavily influenced by the previous rounds, so stay tuned!

As of now, the Storm Prediction Center has placed the Stateline under a Level 1/5 Marginal Risk for severe weather for Tuesday. This would be primarily for a window during the second half of the day. This means a few storms may push severe limits (60 mph wind gusts and/or 1" diameter hail). This outlook will likely change before Tuesday, so check back for updates!

At least scattered storms will likely continue on and off through Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. How much of a gap we see between Wednesday morning's and Wednesday afternoon's rounds of storms will determine how strong those storms may be. If there is limited recovery time, our storms may likely be on the weaker side. If the sun comes out for a few hours Wednesday morning, we may see a few strong to severe storms Wednesday afternoon and evening. This far out, we are only looking at overall patterns, but more fine-tuned forecast on most favorable windows for storms will become clearer in the coming days.
