Showers with embedded thunderstorms expected for the rest of Wednesday afternoon

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin for the remainder of Wednesday afternoon and evening. The overall severe threat has been focused well to the east and south of the Stateline as low pressure moves across northern Illinois. This is where there is currently a Tornado Watch and ongoing severe weather, extending through central Indiana.

However, given the proximity of the surface low and a slight increase in 'spin' in the atmosphere, the possibility for funnel clouds and/or brief and weak tornadoes also exists. This is highest for our counties near the Mississippi River. However, our overall severe threat remains low locally.

Temperatures have been quite a bit cooler with readings in the 70s, but it continues to remain muggy as high levels of moisture (dew points near 70 degrees) remain in place. The scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through the evening with a few showers lasting into the early overnight. Temperatures tonight will fall into the low 60s, rising into the low 80s Thursday afternoon.
