Severe weather preparedness: Knowing your National Weather Service office

Yesterday we discussed the important of knowing the difference between a watch and a warning. But do you happen to know who issues said watches and warnings for your county?

The Stateline is actually divided up into three forecast zones between the National Weather Service offices in Chicago, Quad Cities, and Milwaukee...

NWS Chicago: Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee, and DeKalb counties

NWS Quad Cities: Stephenson, Jo-Daviess, Carroll, and Whiteside counties

NWS Milwaukee: Green, Rock, and Walworth counties

The incredible staff at these offices work together to not only provide us with life-saving alerts, they also provide with radar and satellite data, forecast model data, and survey and event analysis. And as we say every time there is the potential for severe weather here in the Stateline, it is important to have multiple ways to receive these watches and warnings. This includes a having a properly programmed NOAA weather radio, having the First Warn Weather App, or by watching us on Eyewitness News.
