Saturday morning weather update

Now that we can all take a breath after last night's powerful storm system came through, we can take a look back at how this system impacted us as well as how it will impact us through today. Strong to severe thunderstorms raced through the state line last night prompting numerous severe thunderstorm warnings for the state line even though these weren't the heaviest storms in terms of rainfall.

Thunderstorms that moved through yesterday were drier than normal as dewpoints near the surface were quite separated from our temperatures allowing for enhanced dry air at the surface. As these storms rolled through, dry conditions at the surface allowed for winds to gust out stronger from the complex which ultimately aided in straight line wind reports across the state line yesterday with some gusts over 70 mph yesterday.
This dynamic weather system continues today not only bringing severe weather yesterday, but to portions of the deep south later this afternoon. This system has taken headlines already as severe thunderstorms, heavy snow, dust storms, and even enhanced fire weather have impacted much of the central United States with many of those watches/warnings continuing today.

We will still be under the influence of this system as well today as continued strong winds will continue on the south side of the surface low pressure with this system. High wind warning and advisories are in place already today as sustained winds will approach 30 mph through the afternoon with some gusts peaking near 50 mph later today. Hold onto those hats!

Not only will we see strong winds once again today, but as cold air wraps around the backside of the low-pressure system, some snowfall may be possible into the early morning hours tomorrow. The good news though is that accumulation totals will remain low as mainly light snow showers and even light flurries will be the only outcome. Still though, if you are heading out overnight watch for slick spots on roadways.

Into the next two days though cooler air wrapping around today will drop us briefly in the 40's with some chances of flurries lingering around into the morning. By Monday though, stronger and warmer southerly flow will return helping us get back up near 60 degrees!
