Red Flad Warnings in place Monday

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8pm for the following counties in northwest Illinois: Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll, and Whiteside. Southwest winds gusting as high as 45 mph combined with low relative humidity values and relatively warm temperatures will allow fires to rapidly spread, should any develop. Any sort of outdoor burning is not recommended today.

And even though the rest of the viewing area is not under any sort of warning, elevated fire conditions are in place.

Strong winds will ease some after sunset, but we do hold on to a breeze through the night. This will keep temperatures close 40 degree overnight. Southerly winds will remain in place Tuesday, but not nearly as strong as Monday with gusts around 25 mph.

The wind will pick back up ahead of an incoming low pressure system Wednesday, at times gusting 30-35 mph during the afternoon. Following the front colder air rushes in that'll not only bring us the chance for some snow showers, but a blustery northwest breeze knocking temperatures down about 20 degrees from Wednesday.
