It was a return to a winter wonderland across parts of the Stateline this morning with heavy snow along a slow-moving band. Between 6-9AM, many were able to pick up several inches, especially Southeast of a line between Milwaukee, WI and Davenport, Iowa.

The Rockford airport picked up 4.1" of snow, marking the highest snowfall of the year! Parts of Boone and Western McHenry counties were able to see 4-5" of snow with a sharp cutoff to the East. Meanwhile areas primarily West of I-39 saw almost nothing, with no measurable snow reported as close as Freeport.

As of 5PM, much of the snow has already begun to melt away with bright evening sunshine at a higher sun angle in mid-March. Temperatures also surged into the 40s, aiding in the melting process.

Temperatures tonight will drop back down into the 20s underneath a clear sky. This will cause quite a bit of re-freezing from the evening melting, so be aware of slick spots late tonight!

Re-freezing is only a concern into early Monday morning, as the sunshine and breezy Southerly winds return. This will bring us into the 50s Monday and 60s Tuesday with overnight lows only in the 40s both days.

Our next chance for rain arrives Tuesday night with a widespread storm system. This will keep temperatures in the 60s with rain showers and even a few rumbles of thunder Wednesday before mixed precipitation and a quick cool-down Wednesday night. High temperatures Thursday will only be in the 40s.
