Severe thunderstorm watch in now effect Friday evening

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for all of Northern Illinois until 2AM Saturday morning. Main threats will be scattered wind gusts up to 80 mph. Storms will arrive for the Western portions of the Stateline by around 9PM.

Here is a look at the line of storms as of 7PM in Iowa. Some of the storms were briefly weaker and unwarned but have since gained a little bit of their strength back. These storms are moving North or Northeast at 70 mph in some areas along the line and will reach NW Illinois near or shortly after 9PM.

The strongest of the storms will push through the I-39 corridor between 10-11PM, bringing with it the primary threat of for damaging wind gusts. Storms will exit the Stateline to the East between 1-2AM. Be sure to remain weather aware late tonight and have multiple ways to receive any warnings, should they be issued!
