First, let's talk about the daytime hours. The National Weather Service has placed all of northern Illinois under a WIND ADVISORY. For Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, and McHenry Counties, this will run from 12PM Friday to 1AM Saturday. For Carroll, Whiteside, Jo-Daviess, and Stephenson Counties, this will run from 1PM Friday to 1AM Saturday. Winds during this time could gust as high as 50 mph. This is strong enough to result in difficult travel for some as well as isolated power outages.
Along with the wind advisory comes a RED FLAG WARNING. This is for all of northern Illinois and will be in place from 1PM-9PM Friday. Combine the wind with the very low humidity and you get a very conducive formula for fires to rapidly spread. Please avoid all plans to burn until a later date!
Strong winds carry on into the weekend. For that, the National Weather Service in Chicago has placed Ogle, Lee, Boone, Winnebago, McHenry, and DeKalb Counties under a HIGH WIND WATCH. This will be in place from 8AM to 3PM Saturday as peak gusts will end up a smidge higher than today, landing in the 45 to 55 mph range. Similar to today, difficult travel is likely as well as a few power outages.
On a positive note, today's rather strong southeasterly wind will bring the Stateline into uncharted territory in the temperature department. Afternoon highs are expected to end up closer to 80
° this afternoon. Punching this into the calculator puts us roughly 30° above mid-March standards.
