Strong winds continue Wednesday evening following wind-whipped snow showers

A Wind Advisory remains in effect for northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin until late Wednesday evening as strong winds on the backside of a departing low-pressure system gust as high as 50 mph through sunset. It won't be until late Wednesday night when those strong winds begin to ease.

The wind-driven snow showers from earlier in the day continue to move east leaving us with mostly cloudy skies for the rest of the evening. Temperatures took a tumble, starting out in the 40s early in the morning but then quickly dropping into the 30s as the cold rush of air moved in. Wind chills are in the teens.

As the northwest wind continues into the night temperatures will drop through the evening, down into the low 20s early Thursday with wind chills in the upper single digits and low teens. Northwest winds will still be around 30 mph early Thursday but should ease as high-pressure slides to our south during the afternoon.

Sunshine also returns helping to erase some of the chill from Wednesday afternoon. The return of sunshine will bring afternoon temperatures into the upper 30s and low 40s.
