Cold front Monday night brings brief end to Spring-like warmth

I sure hope you've been able to get out an enjoy this beautiful Monday afternoon. The sunshine combined with the southwest breeze have warmed temperatures well into the 60s, nearing 70 degrees in a few spots! The breezy winds will continue through the evening which will slow the temperature drop through sunset. This will set the stage for a very comfortable evening.

A cold front, however, positioned near the U.S./Canadian border will sink south through the Midwest this evening, crossing over the state line early Tuesday morning. The front comes through dry so all we'll see from it is just an increase in cloud cover late tonight. Temperatures will remain fairly mild, dropping into the low 40s overnight.

As the front comes through winds will turn to the north, and then to the east during the afternoon. Temperatures will briefly warm to 50 degrees - most likely around Noon - before dropping some during the afternoon and evening as cooler winds push inland from Lake Michigan.

The front will stall to the south across central Illinois Wednesday and Thursday. This will leave the Stateline under partly cloudy skies and temperatures warming into the 60s. We may also see a little cloud cover from time to time.

Another big warm-up is expected to occur Friday ahead of a deepening low-pressure system to the west. Strong southwest winds will return ahead of the low Friday which could very well push afternoon temperatures into the 70s! Unfortunately, it'll also come with the chance for some showers and thunderstorms - especially late in the day Friday - and Saturday. Some of the storms Friday evening/night could be on the strong to severe side, something we'll need to continue to monitor this week. Something else we'll need to keep an eye on are the winds Friday and Saturday. Non-thunderstorm southwest winds Friday could gust as high as 40 mph and then near 50 mph on Saturday.
