Monday marked the second day in a row where peak winds exceeded the 35 mph mark. Officially, a locale or two wound up registering a peak wind upwards of 48 to 51 mph. This includes Rockford.
Behind last night's frontal passage, winds will remain gusty for much of our Tuesday. Unfortunately, these will be much colder breezes. Temperatures out the door are sitting 5° to 15° cooler compared to 24 hours ago, in the upper 30s and low 40s.
Temperatures will be back on the rise Wednesday, landing in the upper 50s. Much more significant warming is to occur on Thursday as winds shift to the south and southwest ahead our next storm system. Underneath a partly cloudy sky, temperatures should warm into the upper 60s. Come Friday, a warm front will be sitting to our north, allowing temperatures to climb back into the upper 70s. This would be Rockford's warmest day since April 2nd.
Along with Friday's warmth comes an opportunity for showers and thunderstorms along the associated cold front, some of which could be severe. In their latest round of severe outlooks, the Storm Prediction Center has placed areas south of Savanna, Freeport, Janesville, and the Milwaukee metro under a 15% risk (equivalent to a level 2, Slight Risk). Make sure to check the forecast frequently over the next few days as changes to the forecast will occur.
