Summer-like warmth arrives next week with storm chances

After a brief cool-down to near-average temperatures over the weekend will give way to another warm stretch early next week. This will be driven by a Southwesterly flow pattern in the jet stream aloft. This will funnel the warm, moist air mass our direction into early next week. The stronger winds aloft will also draw a low-pressure system our way between Monday and Tuesday, allowing for that moisture to fall as rain.

Temperatures will reach well into the 70s and even near 80-degrees on Monday prior to a cold front coming through Monday night or Tuesday. Ahead of and along this front, we will see increased rain and storm chances in a more widespread form than our chances prior to the weekend. Shower chances arrive Sunday night, with the highest coverage of any storms likely Monday night into early Tuesday.

Some of these storms could be on the stronger side, with the Storm Prediction Center highlighting a couple widespread regions for a severe risk Monday (left) and Tuesday (right). The timing of the cold front will play a big role in how strong our storms may get. At the moment, the highest confidence on the severe risk is to the North and West on Monday then South and East on Tuesday. If the system speeds up or slows down, that could increase our local threat for any strong storms. Stay tuned!
