Temperatures warm back into the 70s follow light rain Wednesday morning

A few showers, and even some thunderstorms, rolled across northern Illinois early Wednesday morning. This left skies mostly cloudy through much of the morning and kept temperatures in the 60s. But as the clouds began to break temperatures were quick to warm into the 70s during the afternoon.

A few isolated showers have been moving through northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, but the overall coverage is very scattered with most remaining dry through much of the evening. A cold front will slowly sink south towards the state line early Thursday which will help turn winds more to the east, then southeast, Thursday afternoon.

While an isolated shower/storm can't be ruled out through the night, drier air moving in will help keep skies mostly dry through Thursday afternoon. Temperatures Thursday will also warm into the mid-70s. A rather strong lake breeze (due to the front) will move down Lake Michigan Thursday evening which will cause temperatures to quickly cool east of Rockford during that time.

The chance for showers and thunderstorms will return late Thursday night/early Friday morning as our next low-pressure system moves in from the west. An increase in moisture through Friday morning will help increase the chance for rain during that time. The thunderstorm risk remains low, but with the low and warm front close by it's possible that a few funnel clouds could occur, although the overall severe threat is low.

High pressure moves in Saturday with mostly dry conditions expected for the weekend. Temperatures will take a little dip Saturday remaining in the low 60s but will then warm into the upper 60s Sunday.
