Even though Wednesday started out a bit on the chilly side, it turned into a gorgeous afternoon. Morning lows fell into the upper 20s area wide with a little patchy frost noted right around sunrise.
But with the sun-filled skies afternoon temperatures warmed into the upper 50s, with a few locations reaching the low 60s. Now, cloud cover has moved back in and will continue through the rest of the evening and overnight. This will limit our temperature drop overnight, with lows sitting into the low 40s to start Thursday.
Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely to develop well to our west and southwest late Wednesday evening along the leading edge of higher moisture and warmer air aloft. This activity will begin to lift northeast through early Thursday morning. There is a chance that some of the shower activity could hold together long enough to allow for the chance of a few widely scattered showers mid-morning through the afternoon Thursday. The overall coverage of the rain and cloud cover could play a role in how warm we get for the afternoon.
As low pressure develops out in the Plains Wednesday night it'll move towards Iowa during the day Thursday. South to southeast winds will increase as a result, gusting to 35 mph during the afternoon and evening. The gusty wind will continue Friday, shifting to the southwest and warming temperatures into the upper 70s. Wind gusts Friday will reach between 30-35 mph.
