The rain and isolated thunderstorms that developed to our west Thursday morning were able to maintain at least some strength into the early afternoon, moving across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. However, instability did decrease quite a bit east of the Mississippi River which lead to more rain than thunder locally.
The back edge of the rain showers should be exiting the area between 4pm and 5pm, with mostly cloudy skies taking us through the rest of the evening. With the rain moving in mid-day temperatures did fall into the low 50s. However, these numbers should warm slightly once the rain moves out.
Additional thunderstorms will be possible late this evening/early overnight with the arrival of a little more elevated instability and a warm front. Most of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin remain within the 'marginal risk' for an isolated severe storm or two during that time. Biggest impacts would remain hail and gusty winds.
