Perfect outdoor day today, rain showers slide back in Friday

Wednesday was downright spectacular. Light winds, mixed sunshine, and for the second straight day, afternoon highs peaked in the 70s.

Today will be just as warm as Wednesday, just with a few modifications. Behind a sweeping cold front this morning, cloud cover will decrease, resulting in a bit more sunshine for the afternoon.

Get out and enjoy it!

Moisture increases overnight, resulting in an increase in cloud cover and rain chances. By Friday morning's commute, a round of scattered showers will be sliding through as low pressure moves overhead. An isolated storm or two cannot be ruled out. Any chance for rain should shift to our east shortly after midday, leaving us cloudy and cooler in the 60s.

The weekend looks nice! Behind the departing low, a ridge of high pressure settles in. This will leave us dry for Saturday and a majority of Sunday, with afternoon highs getting back near the 70° mark.

We'll need to keep an eye on Monday evening into Monday night as we could see a round of strong to severe storms roll in from the west. In their latest round of outlooks, the Storm Prediction Center placed areas from Kansas City, MO to La Crosse, WI under a 30% risk for severe storms. This is equivalent to a level 3 of 5, enhanced risk. In this highlighted area, all severe hazards will be possible, including tornadoes. To the east of the 30%, there is a 15% risk which is equivalent to a level 2 of 5, Slight Risk. Included is the entire Stateline area.
