Monday evening weather update

Temperatures Monday afternoon warmed into the low to mid 80s across the Stateline under partly to mostly cloudy skies. The majority of the day stayed dry, outside of a few isolated showers that moved through earlier Monday morning. A cold front sweeping across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin has tried to produce some isolated shower/storm activity but most, if not all, rain has remained outside the viewing area. While a very isolated shower can't be completely ruled out, like what we currently see across far northern Rock County (southern Wisconsin), most locations will remain dry through the night.

Temperatures will drop into the mid-60s overnight under partly cloudy skies. Cloud cover is expected to increase through Tuesday morning as moisture from what is now Tropical Depression Beryl continues to lift north and northeast. The current track of the remnant low pressure system has it passing south of the Stateline Tuesday night and Wednesday, with heavy rainfall expected across central Illinois into northwest and northern Indiana.

Most of this heavy rain will miss the Stateline as the center of the low moves through southern Illinois Tuesday night. If the low shifts further north, we could see a slight increase in shower and thunderstorm coverage in the Stateline. If it remains on its current track, it appears that areas east and southeast of Rockford would have the better chance for rain and embedded thunderstorms, but the heaviest rainfall would still remain southeast.

As the low pulls to the east Wednesday scattered thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon and evening. These will be driven by the heating of the day, fading away as the sun sets Wednesday evening. More of the same can be expected for Thursday. Highs both days will warm into the low to mid 80s.
