Scattered storms return Wednesday afternoon

Widely isolated showers and thunderstorms developed along a lake breeze Tuesday evening, moving inland (to the west), developing showers and isolated thunderstorms across southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. While the coverage has been very scattered, the rain has been heavy as copious amounts of moisture remain present in the atmosphere.

The leading edge of the heavy rain shield from the remnants of Beryl continue to move north, closer towards northeast Illinois Tuesday evening. This low will move through southern Illinois Tuesday night, lifting just north of Indianapolis Wednesday morning. Bands of heavy rain will continue to fall across northern Indiana, while the rain moves out of northern Illinois during that time.

A brief return of drier air moves in Wednesday ahead of another upper-level disturbance to the west. This, combined with a slight increase in instability, will allow scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon. Severe weather is not expected, but like Tuesday heavy downpours, and perhaps some gusty winds, may occur. The coverage of the showers and storms will fade with sunset leaving skies mostly dry through Wednesday night.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur once again Thursday afternoon, but coverage should be a little less than Wednesday. Temperatures will warm into the mid-80s Thursday, then into the upper 80s Friday. Heat returns Saturday with highs warming near 90 degrees, with the low 90s expected Sunday and Monday. The rise in dew point temperatures - nearing 70 degrees - will also bring heat index values close to, if not over, 100 degrees.
