Temperatures on the rise into early August

As calmer and cooler weather has stuck around this past week, don't expect these below average temperatures to continue into next month. July has been a cooler than average month this year but as high pressure out west moves east expect temperatures to climb by the end of July into Early August.

With previously mentioned high pressure to the west, this has allowed for seasonably cooler temperatures through last week and into the next. Isolated precipitation chances linger around to start the week as a weak low-pressure system slowly makes its way through. After that the skies clear for the late week and temperatures slowly start to rise on Saturday. By Friday into Saturday the current high-pressure system to the west begins to break down but while breaking down it also brings warmer temperatures to the east as it slowly slides east through time.

By Sunday of next week temperatures may be approaching upper 80's to even 90 degrees as the high-pressure system brings warmer temperatures and higher moisture content with it. From the Climate Prediction Center temperatures are expected to reach back into the above normal range for late July into Early August. This could mean the 90-degree heat may return however the highest temperatures look to stay farther to the east.

As previously mentioned, this summer has been quite mild in terms of temperature however climatologically August is one of the hottest months for the region. So as this high-pressure system continues to move east expect temperatures to climb near 10 degrees compared to what we've been experiencing as another ridge as well begins to build to our north.

In terms of precipitation, we move into an increase in chances of precipitation through the early part of August. As this high-pressure system continues to move a ridge of upper-level winds begin to develop to the north of the system. Depending on where the concentration of high pressure sets up this ridge may slide further south bringing enhanced upper-level flow to the region. With moisture set to increase through the period as well, the combination of stronger upper-level winds with higher moisture content moves us into an above average precipitation outlook.

This pattern will bring a more summer feel to the air as heat and humidity will return along with increased precipitation to thunderstorm potential so enjoy the cooler weather while it lasts!
