Sunday evening weather update

Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed Sunday afternoon along the outer edge of an upper-level low moving into west-central Illinois. A few convergence boundaries (winds moving towards each other) have developed, allowing the scattered storm activity to develop.

While most of the storms will remain outside of northern Illinois through the evening, an isolated storm or two can't be ruled out through sunset. A few storms did develop along a westward advancing lake breeze boundary, now moving through McHenry, Walworth, and Rock counties, and this activity may continue through Boone, Winnebago, and Stephenson counties.

Any storm that develops through sunset will be capable of producing heavy downpours, small hail, and gusty winds. A couple funnel clouds have been reported in Iowa with some of the stronger storms, but severe weather is not expected.

As the sun sets this evening, the threat for storms will decrease, leaving mostly clear skies through the night. Low level moisture and light winds will likely lead to some areas of fog, some of which could be dense, through Monday morning. Conditions Monday will be similar to Sunday, temperatures warming into the low 80s with afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
