Sunday morning flood and severe weather update

Saturday night into Sunday morning has been an eventful sequence over the past few hours. Multiple complexes of thunderstorms have impacted most of the state line through the early morning hours. Although not severe these storms have brought heavy rain to the region prompting several flash flood warnings and flood watches.

Currently multiple flash flood warnings and flood watches are in effect over much of the state line with all the rainfall we've experienced. With thunderstorms moving out of the area now flood risks should start to ease up.
Around the time of the passage of the 3rd round of thunderstorms rainfall has exceeded 4-5 inches in some areas of Rockford especially in the purple areas. Rainfall can continue to rise too through the day as this final round of thunderstorms moves to the southeast, with another inch of rain possibly falling through the morning.
The early morning storms are expected to move off the southeast but are not the only thunderstorms to impact the area today. Just recently the Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the area for a 2/5 slight risk mainly for damaging wind gusts however some hail and a brief isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Severe thunderstorms don't go away into Monday either as the entire region again is under a slight 2/5 risks again for a line of thunderstorms producing possible damaging wind gusts. Two rounds of thunderstorms are expected tomorrow again with the second round being the stronger of the two.

With severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, it is crucial to pay attention to watches and warnings issued through this active time frame.
