It has been another seasonably cool afternoon across the Stateline, with our third straight day with highs below 80° in Rockford. The slightly cooler than average trend continues into the night, though we will see a bit more cloud cover, keeping overnight lows from falling further than the low 60s.
By tomorrow afternoon, we will see a return of more sunshine, mixed within pockets of clouds. The sunshine will allow for more optimal daytime heating to occur and highs to reach the low 80s this time around. This will aid to build up the deck of afternoon cumulus clouds. Within some of these clouds we may find a few spotty showers, given a bit more moisture in the lower levels compared to what we saw Saturday. Note there will be plenty of dry time, and it will not be raining the entire day.
Similar coverage of showers will be possible each of the following two days as a weak and slow-moving upper-level low pressure moves across the region. Both Monday and Tuesday afternoon may also feature an isolated storm given a bit of instability, but those chances will be low. Lack of shear aloft will prevent storms from becoming organized. By Wednesday, we will see a little more moisture and a little more shear. A few organized storms may be possible within more widespread showers, but severe weather is still unlikely given the weaker ingredients.
Temperatures will remain steady throughout the next few days with highs in the low 80s and lows in the low/mid-60s. Shower chances remain possible each afternoon Sunday through Wednesday before another high pressure system moves in and clears things out a bit for Thursday and Friday before warmer weather begins to take over again into the weekend.
