Saturday evening severe storm potential

AFTERNOON STORM UPDATE: We have some isolated storms beginning to break through a bit of a cap here this afternoon. Right now, these storms are only capable of some lightning and heavy rain, but strong instability may favor some gusty winds here soon.

Our focus also remains with some stronger activity well to the NW near Minneapolis. This will dive Southeast along the gradient of highest instability currently laid across our region.

The line of storms to the NW likely would arrive near the Stateline overnight, but some models have been picking up on additional activity (possibly along outflows from the current isolated storms) that may arrive before Midnight. Multiple rounds of storms are possible not only through tonight, but also Sunday and Monday too. We will continue to monitor radar trends tonight and through that time.

Nonetheless, the Storm Predicition Center has issued a Level 2/5 Slight risk for portions of the Stateline, with highest confidence in any severe potential further North closer to the main complex of storms currently in Minnesota/Wisconsin. Main threat will be damaging winds within strongest storms.

Main takeaway now is to remain weather aware this evening and tonight, and make sure to have multiple ways to get watches and warnings, should any be issued.
