Severe storms bring tornadoes to northern Illinois

 


The National Weather Service has been busy conducting damage surveys across northern Illinois following severe storms that moved through Sunday and Monday evening. While additional surveys will continue in the days to follow, they did confirm that 4 tornadoes touched down in northern Illinois between Sunday and Monday.

Sunday: An EF-0 tornado with peak winds of 75 mph touched down shortly before 9pm southwest of
Esmond, traveling southeast before lifting near McQueen Road in DeKalb County. It was on the ground for a little over three miles and was 100 yards wide. Damage occurred to many trees and crops along its path, along with destroying a building.

Monday: An EF-0 tornado with peak winds of 80 mph touched down at 7:44pm in Byron, moving east before lifting east of town at 7:51pm. It was on the ground for five miles and was 200 yards wide.

An EF-0 tornado with peak winds of 80 mph touched down just west of Davis Junction at 7:58pm, moving east before lifting at 8pm. It was on the ground for just under 2 miles and was 200 yards wide.



A third tornado from Monday evening has also been confirmed in southern Winnebago County. This was also rated an EF-0, with the exact path TBD as damage surveys continue in the days to follow. Additional damage surveys will continue with more information to follow.
