A quick look back at the month of July shows we ended up slightly warmer and wetter than average. The average monthly temperature for Rockford was 76.2 degrees, 2.4 degrees above average. It was also a fairly wet month, which did help to chip away at some of the ongoing drought over the last several months. For the month, Rockford recorded 6.49 inches of precipitation which was 2.68 inches above average. And it was the first time since March when the monthly precipitation was above average. Although, during that month it was just 0.42 inches above the monthly normal.
So far, the month of August has started slightly cooler and less humid but that does look to change some by the end of the week. But a quick look ahead to the month of August and, on average, our daily high and low temperatures begin to slowly trend down. It's not by much as we only lose a few degrees from the beginning to end, but it's a sign that we will soon be approaching the cooler seasons.
We still record just over four inches of precipitation for the month, but precipitation totals begin to decrease in September.
