Turning hot and humid, storm chances return

So far, the weather for the Boone County Fair has been nice and comfortable. Welp, that is all about to change as a somewhat more summer-like and active weather pattern takes hold.

If you plan to attend the Boone County Fair today or over the weekend, stay up to date with the forecast as there are thunderstorm chances involved.

The first again arriving later today and it all depends on how things transpire to the northwest. For right now, the potential is low and anything that develops will be scattered. In their latest round of outlooks, the Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire area under a level 1 Marginal Risk, mainly for damaging winds and large hail. Heavy downpours will also be a concern this evening into tonight. Not a slam dunk but again, pay attention to the forecast!

Forecast models then show a cold front swinging in during the day Saturday. The timing of this cold front still needs to be fine tuned as models this morning disagreed. However, scattered activity is expected to develop along it as it progresses into Wisconsin and the far northwest portions of Illinois. Areas north of Sterling, Mount Morris, and Rockford have been put under a level 1 Marginal Risk.

The rising heat and humidity will also be something to pay attention to the next few days. Dew points will be closer to or even above 70° today, tomorrow, and Saturday. This will place heat indices in the low to mid 90s this afternoon, then in the mid to upper 90s Friday and Saturday. So, make sure to be thinking about heat safety while outdoors!
