Following a bit of fog and light rain early Wednesday morning, the afternoon shaped up to be a beautiful one with temperatures reaching the upper 70s and low 80s. Rockford's high reached 81 degrees.
There were a few clouds that came through during the afternoon which turned skies mostly cloudy through early evening. But skies have been clearing which will lead to a mostly clear sky through the night. The only exception may be our far eastern counties of DeKalb and southern McHenry where lake effect clouds have been moving inland over the last couple of hours. These could sneak into the area through the night before clearing Thursday morning. Fog will once again be an issue for the morning drive.
Temperatures Thursday will be similar to where they were Wednesday, reaching the upper 70s and low 80s. The forecast high for Rockford is 81 degrees. Winds will turn back to the southwest Friday ahead of a strong cold front that'll sweep across the area late Friday night. A slight increase in moisture ahead of the front may lead to an isolated shower or two through early Saturday. Drier air following the passage of the front will not only lead to a much cooler pattern next week but also limit our rainfall chances through the end of the month.
