Cold front to bring a second chance for storms, lower humidity

A complex of intense storms are sliding in from the southwest this morning. All non-severe, though these will be capable of producing frequent lightning, 50 mph winds, and heavy downpours.

Redevelopment along a cold front is possible later this afternoon into the evening. Forecast models have placed the higher potential for this round to our south and east, but still something to watch.

In their latest round of outlooks, the Storm Prediction Center has placed areas south and east of the Chicago metro under a level 1 Marginal Risk. Any storm that does become severe will be capable of producing strong winds and heavy downpours. Afternoon highs ahead of the frontal passage will peak at seasonable-levels, in the low 80s.

Though afternoon temperatures will stay the same, a drop in humidity levels will occur behind the front. Dew points will drop from the low 70s today to the low 60s for Wednesday and Thursday. That, along with a decent amount of sun should make for great opportunities to get outside. Oh, and I'm not seeing any signs of wildfire smoke tracking down this way in the coming days. So we can actually enjoy this break from the high heat and humidity.
