First taste of fall-like chill next week

Following a weekend cold front, we will see a sharp drop in temperatures starting Sunday. A cooler pocket of air will settle in next week under the influence of a strong Canadian high pressure. This will allow several days to feature highs in the low 70s with lows in the 40s and 50s!

Usually, late August features highs closer to the 80-degree mark than 70-degrees. But we will see multiple days next week with highs between 7-10° below average for this time of year, which is closer to average for late September! Overnight lows starting Sunday night will be near or below 50°, almost chilly for a few mornings.

The last time we saw a stretch of days that were even 7° below average was back at the end of May, when our afternoon highs were in the 50s and 60s from the 19th to the 24th!

This upcoming stretch of fall-like chill will also be accompanied by a mostly dry pattern. Aside from a few very isolated showers Monday and Tuesday afternoons, we are dry almost all of next week. This map from the Weather Prediction Center showcases the very weak signal for any rainfall locally over the next week. We will eventually see the pattern climb out of the seasonable chill, returning near average toward the turn of the calendar month. Average by then will be about upper 70s to low 80s for highs with lows in the upper 50s.
