Periodic scattered storms continue through Monday

6:30PM RADAR: Scattered showers and a few storms are beginning to redevelop this evening. Coverage should remain sporadic in nature, but underneath any of these showers will bring heavy rain with rates possibly over 1"/hour. This wave of rain should wind down toward 12AM.

Thunderstorm coverage has been sporadic over the last 24 hours, but those who have seen rain have seen a lot of it! Some locations near Milwaukee saw over 8-12" of rain mostly late yesterday evening. And far Eastern Iowa also saw nearly 5" of rain with an automated observation near Galena. As expected, there were some spots that saw far less rainfall. Rockford still got a good rain, 1.36" came down mainly between 10AM-12PM.

Another round of scattered storms will be possible Sunday evening. The main threats with these storms will be gusty winds (likely not severe) and heavy rainfall. Rainfall rates may exceed 1" per hour, which could cause street flooding in some spots. Another quick inch or two could come down for some, but it depends on where the biggest cluster of storms develops. The isolated nature of these storms should keep any flooding concerns relegated to areas that have already picked up over an inch of rain in the last 24 hours.

The evening round of rain should begin to wind down through midnight, with a decent signal for many staying dry from midnight through dawn Monday. Scattered storms may again develop during the afternoon but should remain less in coverage than what we saw Sunday morning. Heavy rain will be the main concerns with these storms, but any flooding should remain very isolated in nature.

On and off scattered storms will remain possible through Tuesday afternoon, but a cold front will sweep most of the moisture away going into the middle of the week. This will dry things out for Wednesday and Thursday with a drop in humidity as well.
