Thunderstorms and localized flooding possible Sunday

Although last night's rainfall didn't amount to what was expected some may be happier that it stayed that way. Through the morning and afternoon yesterday precipitation totals were expected to reach 2-3 inches in some spots which would have caused localized flooding.

However, a much different scenario played out as the heaviest thunderstorms ended up missing much of the state line to the North and East which can be seen by the bullseye over Milwaukee. Very heavy rainfall even occurred near the Wisconsin State Fair yesterday with flooding reported on the fairgrounds! Luckily for us though, we stayed mostly dry across the state line.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms are moving in from our west this morning which will provide a bit more rainfall for some locations. Throughout the morning and afternoon, a slow-moving cold front is expected to make its way into the region sparking off one to two new rounds of thunderstorms later today.

This front is expected to move in behind the already ongoing morning round, as it comes in moisture and instability will allow for more thunderstorms to fire this afternoon. The number of storms along this front will determine how much total rainfall we end up with however a similar situation as yesterday will be possible with slow moving thunderstorms containing heavy downpours. Rainfall totals however look to be lower than yesterday with most areas today expected to see between 0.25-0.75 inches.
Due to those factors listed above, as well as morning storms dampening the ground with rainfall, flood watches continue to remain in place for much of the state line. Creeks, rivers, and low-lying areas will be most favorable for accumulating water today. Even with rainfall anticipated to be less than an inch, pay attention to flooded roadways and smaller bodies of water today!
