Heat index back near 100 degrees this weekend

We had a nice break from some of the humidity Wednesday afternoon thanks to the cold front that came through late Tuesday evening. This helped to pull in some dry air, bringing dew point temperatures down from the 70s the last couple of days into the 50s and low 60s. Under mostly clear skies Wednesday night overnight lows will fall on either side of 60 degrees. Similar to what we woke up to Wednesday morning, areas of fog will be possible early Thursday. Locally dense fog may be possible, especially in the open and rural locations.

Thursday will be nearly a carbon copy of Wednesday with temperatures back in the low 80s and partly cloudy skies. Winds turn to the southeast during the afternoon which will help pull in a little more moisture throughout the day. This could lead to just a few more clouds by Thursday evening. A small increase in the dew point temperature won't be too noticeable Thursday, but it will climb heading into the weekend. This is as a warm front lifts through the Midwest Thursday into Friday.

Along the front there could be a few thunderstorms, especially west and northwest late Thursday night/early Friday morning. These will likely have little impact on the Stateline. Temperatures on Friday will warm into the mid and upper 80s, with the heat index back into the low 90s. The warm air will continue into the weekend but a couple 'wrinkles' in the forecast could slow that warm up Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures right now are forecast to rise near 90 degrees both Saturday and Sunday, with a peak heat index nearing 100 degrees.

Thunderstorms developing late Friday night may try to sneak into the area early Saturday. If the storms fizzle we would likely at least see some cloud cover Saturday morning, with a few outflow boundaries close by. These boundaries could then act as a focal point for clouds, and perhaps an isolated storm or two, to develop along during the afternoon. Saturday night will be warm with overnight lows in the 70s. Sunday will likely be another hot day with afternoon temperatures reaching the upper 80s, to near 90 degrees as well. A cold front, reinforced by the cooler winds off of Lake Michigan, will move in late in the day Sunday. Out of the weekend this could be our best chance for thunderstorms Sunday evening. This front will then stall over the area early next week with scattered thunderstorms continuing into next week.
