Tuesday was absolutely spectacular. Mother nature served up plenty of sunshine, allowing afternoon highs area-wide to peak in the upper 70s.
Today's warm up will be somewhat similar, though temperatures will be slowly dropping during peak heating hours thanks to our cold front. Now, this isn't your normal cold front that progresses in a west to east movement. This is a boundary that comes in from the north and sinks southward, hence it being referred to as a "backdoor" cold front.
Forecast models bring this front in around or shortly after midday, allowing temperatures to quickly climb into the low 70s prior to it's passage. Behind it, winds will turn breezy out of the northeast, pushing temperatures down into the low 60s by the time the evening commute rolls around. Precipitation-wise, this cold front will pass through dry as there won't be any moisture available during it's passage. There is a slightly higher chance for a sprinkle or shower to our southwest, closer to the Quad Cities area.
Northeast flow continues into Thursday afternoon, limiting highs to the low 60s. In fact, Thursday's forecast high of 64-degrees lands exactly 10-degrees cooler than afternoon highs today. Fortunately, this cooldown will be very brief as temperatures will be on the climb again starting Friday. A blocking ridge of high pressure aloft will keep us dry during this stretch and also over the weekend. Expect afternoon highs to be in the mid to upper 70s Saturday and Sunday, then low 80s on Monday.
