Patchy frost possible across northern Illinois Friday morning

Wednesday's strong cold front made for quite the turnaround in our temperatures.

Between yesterday's high and this morning's low, we're talking at about a 30° difference, with some locales starting their day in the mid 40s.

With the front now to our south, winds will remain out of the northeast today and tomorrow, which will limit afternoon highs considerably. Temperatures this afternoon will peak in the low to mid 60s, then upper 60s close to the 70° mark Friday. Despite the cooler trend, both days feature plenty of sun.

The coolest air arrives Friday morning, leaving low temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. This may be cold enough for patchy frost to develop. Come this weekend, a strong ridge of high pressure takes hold of the midsection of the country. This will leave us dry but warmer with afternoon highs topping out in the upper 70s Saturday and Sunday.

I did leave a VERY slim chance for a shower as models do show a lake breeze boundary pushing inland. Another slim chance for spotty showers may arrive early next week with a weak low-pressure system lifting in from the deep south.
