Wednesday update: Cold front has passed with a few isolated showers/storms

Temperatures Wednesday afternoon warmed well into the 70s, with a few locations even reaching 80 degrees. But the warmth wasn't felt for everyone as a cold front came through earlier in the day, shifting winds to the northeast. This first pulled in some cooler air east of Rockford keeping temperatures in the 60s, but now the chill is spreading west with temperatures expected to fall through the rest of the evening.

Northeast winds have also started to increase gusting to 25 mph. The breezy winds will continue through Thursday morning. Isolated showers, and even some thunderstorms, have developed over northwest and west-central Illinois.

These isolated showers and storms have formed along and ahead of the front with the heating of the day. They shouldn't last too long after sunset but could produce some brief downpours for some. Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy through the night with overnight lows falling into the low to mid 40s.
