Isolated shower chances return Sunday evening

While we have remained dry Saturday, it was a bit on the cooler side as high temperatures struggled to reach 60° for some. Part of that was due to a Northerly direction to the wind but also owed to the lingering cloud cover from a stalling upper-level low pressure system to our South.

This upper low is part of an "omega" blocking pattern aloft, where a ridge of high is sandwiched between two cutoff lows. With the main driving force of the jet stream cut off from these lows, they don't move very quickly. This type of pattern can typically stall out like this for days on end, leading to increased clouds and rain chances under the influence of the cutoff lows.

With a pocket of drier air moving overhead Saturday, we will see clouds thin out a bit tonight. Our next round of moisture will begin to swing around the low to our South by the second half of Sunday. With a persistent Northeast wind, we will remain in the low/mid 60s despite a few pockets of sunshine. The daytime hours of Sunday will likely be rain-free with low level dry air keeping rain from reaching the surface.

A few of those showers may be able to make it to the surface toward the evening and nighttime hours of Sunday. The best chances for any light showers will be Sunday evening into Monday, with the higher coverage to the Southeast underneath the low pressure. Any rain we see will remain light and isolated, with many in the Stateline likely staying dry. Temperatures will stay on the cooler side, with afternoon highs only in the low to mid-60s Sunday and Monday. More abundant sunshine will make a return mid-week, with high temperatures in the 70s again Tuesday and Wednesday.
