Rain chances remain on the table ahead of weekend improvements

Keep the umbrella close by today as multiple rounds of showers are scheduled to pass through. The heaviest will occur before mid-morning as a compact system dodges the region to our southeast. A few isolated thunderstorms will also be possible, though severe weather will not be a concern.

Once this morning's expansive wave of rain departs, expect more dry hours to mix in as our rain chances become more scattered in nature. Temperatures underneath today's mostly cloudy skies will top out a degree or two above the 60° mark. Friday looks to start on a more quiet note and could even feature a fair amount of sunshine. Cloud cover will build back in as we jump into the afternoon, bringing with it a chance for a few scattered showers. Afternoon highs will once again peak in the low 60s.

As of this moment, the weekend looks dry. The one thing we'll have to watch is how close an upper-level low gets Sunday into Monday. Forecast models show a blocking pattern setting up in the upper-levels, essentially trapping this low over the Tennessee and Ohio Valley. If this low were to spiral close enough, a few more clouds can be expected as well as a slim chance for a shower. Temperatures will also be impacted as the additional cloud cover will result in a cooler afternoon highs into next week.
