Another cool night, scattered rain on the horizon

It was another pleasant day in the Stateline under partly cloudy skies with comfortable dew points. High temperatures reached the low to mid-70s for many, including a high of 76° in Rockford. Overnight, clear skies will allow many spots to reach back into the low 50s, similar to the night before.

This is all happening with another perfect example of efficient radiational cooling tonight underneath those clear skies. This is when the solar radiation from the daytime heating escapes into the atmosphere under clear skies, cooling temperatures quickly.

Tomorrow brings more in the way of partly cloudy skies with slightly warmer temperatures. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 70s for most rather than the low and mid-70s from the previous few days. We will continue to see fair weather cumulus clouds that develop during the afternoon but will clear again overnight.

We stay dry through Sunday night, but gradually increasing moisture will bring our next rain chances to the region into Monday morning and afternoon. These likely won’t be very widespread, but scattered showers will be the possible story.

Monday will be the first day of a slow warming trend with afternoon highs reaching back into the low 80s by Tuesday, along with daily scattered chances for a few showers and storms Wednesday through the end of the week. None of these days will be a washout, but at least slim chances may be possible each day.
