Monday morning weather update

Compared to August-standards, it truly doesn't get any better than the weather we had this past weekend. With an area of high pressure sitting nearby, each day featured beautiful sun-filled skies as well as seasonably cool temperatures. I don't know about you but I've had my air conditioner off since last Tuesday and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Even better, the northern lights made an appearance both Saturday and Sunday night, which timed perfectly with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. If you stayed up for it, you saw quite the show! Now, the warm up from this past weekend comes to a halt as Monday features a decent amount of cloud cover as well as a light northwesterly wind. Expect this morning's cloud cover to give way to a little bit more sunshine by the afternoon, with afternoon highs peaking in the upper 70s. Skies will slowly clear overnight as the center of this high pressure system moves overhead. This will leave overnight lows in the upper 50s.

Tuesday and Wednesday will also be dry, with high temperatures peaking in the low 80s. A small chance for a passing shower  does arise in our extreme eastern spots as a lake breeze boundary moves inland off of Lake Michigan. Come Wednesday afternoon, clouds will be on the increase, paving the way for our next chance for rain and storms.

Low pressure swinging into the western Great Lakes will continue chances into Thursday and Friday. The path in which this low takes from the central plains is still in question. For instance, the American (GFS) model brings said low over northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin while the European (EURO) model showcases a more northerly track, placing the low closer to Lake Superior.

The overall track will determine just how long storm chances will linger into Friday. Thankfully, severe potential is low for both days. Expansive cloud cover and periodic rain chances will keep temperatures seasonably cool, hanging around the 80° mark for afternoon highs. The only exception may be Thursday as high temperatures will fail to eclipse the 80° mark.
