Summer-like heat builds in toward the weekend

It was another cool and comfortable day in the Stateline with highs in the mid-70s for most under sunny skies and high pressure. Rockford reached a high of 76°, marking yet another day with a below average high temperature.

Clear skies persist into the night, allowing temperatures to quickly drop back into the low 50s for overnight lows. Last night we dropped to 49° in Rockford, so a very similar night with a small chance for some patchy fog under light winds.

More sunshine on the way for Thursday, but the high pressure keeping our weather clear and cool will start to drift away to the East, signaling a warm-up toward the weekend. This time around, highs will reach the upper 70s and near 80°, but humidity remains low so it will remain pleasant and comfortable.

Gradually rising temperatures will be the picture heading into the weekend, along with gradually increasing cloud cover. Moisture continues to build in to the West, but rain chances look to remain very limited or nonexistent until Saturday night, when some showers and storms may be possible overnight.

After this long stretch of cool and comfortable weather, the summertime heat is set up to return this weekend. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the mid/upper 80s Saturday and Sunday and near 90° Monday. Heat indices meanwhile will be rising by similar margins, near 90° Saturday, well into the 90s Sunday, and pushing triple digits Monday.

Some degree of warmth looks to remain in place through the last few days of August as well, with the Climate Prediction Center forecasting high probabilities of seeing above average temperatures between the 27th and 31st.

Rain chances slowly work back into the forecast along with summer-like warmth centered on the weekend into Monday. Monday night a cold front will bring more widespread showers that may last into Tuesday with a slightly cooler stretch mid-week.
