After a cool and cloudy Tuesday, more sunshine was the story for much of Wednesday. Outside of a few fair-weather cumulus clouds and upper-level cirrus, we saw far more patches of blue sky. That aided to warm temperatures into the upper 70s and low 80s across the Stateline. Overnight, skies will remain mostly clear to partly cloudy, but some patches of shallow ground fog may be possible into the morning hours tomorrow.
The afternoon tomorrow will consist of a bit more cloud cover than what Wednesday brought, as an approaching cold front will produce some spotty showers between 3-7PM. Most will remain dry, but the chance of a stray shower is non-zero. It may also feel a little more humid compared to Wednesday as moisture pools a bit along the front.
Looking forward to the weekend, the relatively cool and calm stretch looks to stick around. This is mainly because of an upper-level low pressure that that will settle in across the Northern Great Lakes region, keeping some enhanced upper-level flow over the region. This will be responsible for filtering in cool air aloft and in the low levels, keeping us in the below average pattern a bit longer.
The pattern also keeps us dry, with very few widespread rain chances over the next week locally. Many models only give us small smattering of rain over the next 7 days, but I suspect some may even stay dry throughout that time. Better widespread rain chances look to be well South and West of the Stateline.
A return at least closer to average looks likely heading toward the middle of the month, as the Climate Prediction Center is slightly favoring above average temperatures between the 13th-17th of August. This looks to come also with a return to come humidity and more widespread rain chances toward mid-month.
Here in the short term, things remain cool and comfortable especially over the course of the weekend with highs in the mid-70s Friday through Sunday with lots of sunshine. Overnight lows also look cooler in the low 50s at times over the weekend. But the slow ascend to near-average temperatures will headline next week, with low 80s high temperatures possible again as soon as Tuesday.
