After a cool and somewhat cloudy start Monday skies were able to clear nicely allowing temperatures to warm into the upper 70s and low 80s. Rockford's high temperature reached 82 degrees, just a degree away from the average high of 83.
We've had a few building cumulus clouds develop from time to time across the region, but the majority of the rainfall has been to the west and south closer tied to stronger winds within the jet stream. As high pressure remains in control through the night skies stay mostly clear into Tuesday morning.
Light winds and low-level moisture may contribute to areas of shallow ground fog through the morning, but any fog that does develop isn't expected to last too long. Temperatures overnight will fall into the mid and upper 50s, rising back into the low 80s Tuesday afternoon.
It looks like there will be another chance to view the Northern Lights Monday night as conditions remain mostly clear. Best viewing will occur after 9pm/10pm, away from city lights, and looking to the north along the horizon. The lights may not be quite as vibrant as they were Sunday night, but you may still be able to see them with the naked eye low on the horizon.
Dry conditions will remain until Wednesday evening, although a light shower or two can't be ruled out west of I-39 late afternoon. Heavier rain with a few thunderstorms will be possible late Wednesday night, into Thursday morning.
